On October 19th, we took MAX to Washington Park for Doggie Palooza! We weren't sure what to expect, except lots of dogs. We weren't disappointed.

The event turned out to be a big pet fair. We spent most of the time wandering among the vendor booths and meeting people's pet dogs. One of the most amazing dog breeds we met was a Leonberger. These dogs were bred to look like lions, and they're HUGE. They were lying around (ha!) on the floor, very mellow and enjoying being pet.
We collected a fair amount of information -- both aural and written -- about pet shelters and adoptions. One day soon, we'll be getting a dog to go with our Portland lifestyle. :) We'd really like to adopt from a shelter rather than buy from a breeder or pet store. From what we learned, it sounds like many of those breeder or pet store dogs end up in shelters eventually. We found a few organizations that gather animals from pounds or puppy mills and keep them as long as they need to.
Aside from the informational booths, there were also lots of dog accessories being sold. We bought Mona a woolen chew toy. Apparently wool is digestible.
